My wage is N650,000 as Governor – Seyi Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed that his monthly wage as governor of the state is N650,000.

Therefore, he stated his willingness in the state civil service to tackle bad remuneration.

Makinde made this statement while addressing the state's newly sworn commissioners as he reiterated his dedication to finding a permanent solution to the problem of bad civil service remuneration.

He maintained that bad packages of remuneration could be counterproductive to efforts to combat corruption.


The Governor indicated that it would not be business as normal under his governance, as he would do all he could to guarantee that state employees were not exposed to the temptations of corruption.

He said,

“We do have challenges and I can give you an example of the kind of issues that we are faced with. When I was on the podium being sworn-in, I announced that I was donating my salary to the pension board. I actually thought my salary was going to be like N3 or N4 million monthly but when I came in here, I discovered that my salary is only six hundred and fifty naira (N650,000) monthly, which is less than two thousand dollars ($2,000). And then, I have a budget of over five hundred million dollars.

“How can somebody earning $24,000 a year preside over a five hundred million dollar budget? The temptation is just too high.

“When I was growing up, anytime I saw permanent secretaries and top civil servants, all around with their entourage, jeeps, Land cruisers, I thought they were making it big because I was driving Peugeot or Toyota Camry.

“But when I came in here, the salary of Permanent Secretaries is under N500,000 per month; in such an environment where you have contractors coming with big temptations. The expectation is just too great and high. But the good news is, we will find a solution to this. It’s going to business unusual in Oyo State.”

He charged all the new Commissioners in the state to key into his vision and manifesto of accelerated development of Oyo State, adding that the administration would conduct business in an unusual manner that would change the narrative about governance in the state.

Elder statesman and Second Republic federal lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed, has said Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) can be extradited to Nigeria to answer for some of his crimes against the country.

Speaking in a chat with INDEPENDENT, Junaid, however, said the extradition should be done in accordance with the laws of the country where Kanu is currently hiding. He also warned against an attempt to abduct him like Umaru Dikko, a former Minister of Transportation.

“He can be extradited to Nigeria to be dealt with if it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” he said.

Police seize the international passport of Pastor Fatoyinbo, search his house and office

Police officers from the Force Criminal Investigation Department(FCID), Abuja, investigating the rape allegation against pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo conducted a search on the residence and office of the embattled pastor in Abuja on Wednesday, August 28.

According to a report by Daily Sun, the police also seized the passport of Fatoyinbo, as part of the bail conditions granted to the pastor. Fatoyinbo was also made to provide two level 16 officers with landed property in Abuja, before he was allowed to be taken on bail.

He was however told to be reporting to the FCID on a daily basis until investigation is concluded. The COZA pastor who attended another round of interrogation Wednesday, has since been released to go home. A source told Daily Sun that part of the investigation that took place on Wednesday was a search on the home of the pastor and his office by detectives.

According to source;

“the home of the pastor and his office were searched today by detectives investigating the matter, but I cannot tell you what they found, but defiantly they were looking for incriminating documents and other evidences that was revealed by witnesses during the discreet investigation conducted in the matter.

“Also part of the bail conditions given to pastor Fatoyinbo is that he provides two level 16 officers who have landed property in Abuja, and that his international passport to be deposited with the police which he has done”.

In front of astonished visitors, 15-year-old British boy stabs his parents

A British boy of 15 stabbed his parents before shocked tourists and then yesterday threw himself down a 50 ft ravine on Tenerife.

After knifing his parents in front of bars and restaurants in Costa Adeje in the south of the island, the kid attempted to kill himself near a bus station.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and the boy's mother was taken to a nearby A&E while his father was transferred on the other side of the island to the University Hospital.

The teenager is said to be at another hospital in a very severe situation. He was not officially arrested but is protected by National Police officials.

At this stage, it is being treated as a case of family domestic violence and the mental state of the teenager is believed to have contributed.

The family is understood to be resident in Tenerife rather than on holiday.

A spokesman for Spain's National Police said: 'I can confirm an attack with a sharp object thought to be a knife has taken place in the Costa Adeje area.

'The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.

'The suspected author is the teenage son of the two victims. All three are British and live on the island.

'After the incident, the teenager allegedly tried to throw himself to his death.'

The spokesman added: 'All three are still alive but their injuries are considerable.

'The suspect is under police guard in hospital but has not yet been formally arrested.

'The investigators believe this is not a typical case of family violence and may be linked to mental health problems the teenager is thought to suffer.'

The stabbing happened in the busy tourist area around Las Terrazas and Avenida de Los Pueblos in the Torviscas area of Costa Adeje in front of shocked holidaymakers.

There are several rocky ravines, including a particularly steep one near the bus station in Playa de las Americas a short walk away and very near the local police headquarters.

The 'barranco' is shaped like a huge inverted dome with massive rocks and does not have barriers despite being in the centre of the tourist area.

Russia's 12-year-old girl dies after being sucked into a pool pump and trapped for 15 minutes underwater

A 12-year-old girl died on her Turkish vacation after sucking her arm into a swimming pool pumping machine in a vacation hotel, trapping her underwater.

Alisa Adamova, from St. Petersburg in Russia, was trapped under the surface for nearly 15 minutes as tourists, including her own dad, immediately attempted on August 18 to pull her free from drowning.

Guests say hotel employees at the famous resort Bodrum failed to switch off the strong pump immediately' because the switch could not be found.'

Ultimately, Alisa was pulled free with a piece of the pump still connected to her arm-which provided water to a pool slide.

Holidaymakers then called an ambulance and resuscitated Alisa from mouth to mouth.

Her heart was later restarted by paramedics but she died 11 days after the terrible event.

Jessi Combs, 'Fastest woman on four wheels' killed in a high speed JET-CAR crash

Professional driver and TV host Jessi Combs died while attempting to break her own land speed record after crashing her jet-powered car.

At about 4 pm on a dry bed lake in Oregon's Alvord Desert, the 39-year-old was murdered in the crash on Tuesday.
Jessi pursued a land speed record in the North American Eagle, dubbed the fastest female on four wheels.

The TV personality, who broke the 398 mph record in 2013, entered that same year as a driver the North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger team.

In a shakedown run on the same13-mile course in 2016, she managed to reach 483 miles per hour, but it finished early owing to mechanical problems.

Customs sells confiscated peppers, tomatoes per basket at N200

On Monday, pepper and tomato farmers and traders in Ogun State protested Nigeria Customs Service men's alleged seizure of their farm produce worth N4 million; alleging that customs had begun auctioning the seized pepper and tomatoes at N200 per basket to members of the general public.

The farmers stormed the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Abeokuta on Monday morning under the aegis of the Yewa / Awori Farm Produce Traders and Farmers Association, carrying placards with multiple inscriptions to protest the seizure.

Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman of the association, Timothy Eweoba, said operatives of the NCS had on Sunday night, impounded trucks conveying the produce at Ijoun in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

Eweoba said six trucks of tomato and pepper were impounded by men of the NCS.


According to him, each truck contained 250 baskets at N2,000 per basket.

He said he was surprised that customs could seize their products grown in the country and not contraband.

“We want government to intervene and come to our aid. We are farmers and not smugglers. This is not rice and we took loan from banks to plant all these products,” he said.

When contacted, the Customs PRO in Ogun, Abdullah Maiwada, said that only the National Public Relations Officer of the service can comment on the issue.

And when contacted, the National PRO of the NCS, John Attah, confirmed the seizure to newsmen.

He, however, said the seizure took place at the border as contraband, during a Joint Border Security Exercise and not as a locally-grown product as claimed by the traders.

Attah, who also doubles as the spokesman of the Joint Border Security Exercise, said the traders need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the seized products were not smuggled into the country.

“The tomatoes were impounded at the border line. And if it’s true as they claimed that it was locally-produced, they should go there and prove it.

“It’s imperative on them to prove that the goods are local goods. It’s not rocket science. This is a joint exercise and it goes beyond the customs. What we are doing is in the interest of national security,” he said.

Aircraft makes emergency landing ' after pilot lost consciousness '

After the pilot fainted in the cockpit, an aircraft was compelled to create an emergency landing.

According to the airline, the flight, which was on its manner from Manchester to Maderia, had to divert to Porto in Portugal because of an "onboard medical condition."

TThe pilot is supposed to have been taken to hospital on The alarm is said to have been sounded around 10.20 a.m. local time today, August 26, and a runway was closed for half an hour until 11 a.m. so that the emergency landing could take place, reports Metro UK.

Medical responders said they had received a request to assist a 40-year-old man who was taken to hospital “as a precaution.”

According to Metro UK, a spokesman for Jet2 said: “Flight LS765 from Manchester to Funchal diverted to Porto as a precautionary measure this morning, due to one of the pilots feeling unwell.

“A standby aircraft and replacement crew will be flown to Porto so that we can get customers on their way to Funchal as soon as possible.”
