Anonymous donor gives $25 million to Los Angeles Children's Hospital

An anonymous donor has given $25 million to Children's Hospital of Los Angeles to expand its neurological and interventional radiology resources, hospital officials announced July 17.

“This truly transformative gift comes at a time when demand is growing quickly – particularly among underserved children in Southern California – both for pediatric neurological care as wll as interventional radiology’s broad range of minimally invasive procedures,” CHLA President and CEO Paul Viviano said, in a news release on Wednesday.

Viviano went on to say he was “beyond grateful” for the gift, and noted that it is “one of the largest single donations in the hospital’s history and one that invests in healthier futures for the infants, children and youth we serve.”

The funds will go toward establishing a new multidisciplinary neurological institute outpatient center, where neurologists, neurosurgeons, developmental pediatricians, geneticists, nurses, psychiatrists, social workers and other professionals will work under one roof.

The hospital also said part of the donation will cover enhancements made to CHLA’s Interventional Radiology capacity including the purchase of new technology and an overhaul of existing diagnostic and treatment space.


“Expanding IR is critical to allowing CHLA to meet growing patient volume while also facilitating research to improve patient care for future generations,” Alexandra Carter, CHLA senior vice president and chief development officer, said in the press release.

Boy loses hand on 10th birthday after neighbor gives him lit firework to hold

A young boy celebrating his 10th birthday was severely injured after a neighbour handed him a lit firework during his birthday party in California.

Aaron Carreto lost most of the fingers on his left hand during the July 6 incident, including burns on his stomach, right hand, and face. The 10-year-old was rushed to Long Beach Memorial Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery

His neighbor, Walter Revolorio, 27, was charged on July 9 with one felony count of child abuse under conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death and one felony count of possession of a destructive device in a public place. A second suspect remains under investigation by authorities, KABC reported Friday.

"They lit a firework and then they gave it to me," Carreto told KABC. "The fuse went down, I looked at it and then it popped in my hand when I was going to throw it."

His sister Adriana Carreto said when one of the men tossed him the homemade firework, it left him no time to react or toss it away.

"He tells his family how he feels betrayed by those people around us and wants to start a new life far away from where he grew up," she said.

Revolorio is currently in custody and had he pleaded not guilty. His bail has been set at $630,000, according to KABC.

The 10-year-old boy is described by his sister on a GoFundMe page as a social butterfly, who enjoyed playing soccer, riding his bike with neighbors on their street and playing the video game Fortnite with his classmates.

"This incident changed his life, way of living, but not his spirits," she said.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says on average, 180 people go to the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries in the month around the 4th of July holiday.

According to KABC, Aaron Cerreto underwent two more surgeries before he was transferred to UCI Medical Center in Orange, California, where doctors have stitched his left arm into his stomach to regrow lost tissue.

“He is currently recovering from four surgeries he’s had so far," his sister said. “He lost his left hand completely.”

The boy told KTLA from his hospital bed that he wants those responsible to be in jail so they can't hurt anyone else and he doesn't want to see them anymore.

"I want to thank each and every one of you that has helped my brother in this terrible accident," Adriana Carreto said in a post the GoFundMe page on Friday. "He’s making progress each and every day. To those who love and support Aaron, that’s what is keeping him motivated to better himself. Thank you all for your help! God bless you all!"

$5 million in gold bars has been seized at Heathrow Airport, reportedly from drug cartel by Officials

Five million dollars’ worth of gold bars has been seized by law enforcement officials investigating a South American drug cartel at London’s Heathrow Airport.

The gold, weighing around 229 pounds, was on its way to Switzerland from the Cayman Islands when it was seized. It had previously arrived in the Cayman Islands from Venezuela on a private jet.

The shipment was seized last month but judicial officials have now allowed the National Crime Agency (NCA) to hold it under the Proceeds of Crime act. The gold is now being treated as money laundering in an investigation by the Cayman Islands with the help of the NCA.

 Jariwalla revealed;

“We believe that this shipment was linked to drugs cartels operating out of South America,” NCA Heathrow branch commander, Steve McIntyre, said of the news. "Working with partners overseas and in the UK we were quickly able to identify it and stop its onward movement."

“The business model of many organized crime groups relies upon the ability to move money across borders, to fund further investment in criminal activity,” McIntyre continued. “If we can stop that it not only causes disruption to the criminal network involved and prevents them benefiting from crime, it also stops that re-investment.”

"Officers from Border Force, acting on intelligence from the NCA, moved in to detain the shipment at Heathrow on 1 June,” a NCA spokesman added. "It was being transported from the Cayman Islands to Switzerland, having earlier been shipped to the Caymans on a private jet which had arrived from Venezuela.”

"The gold is now the subject of a money-laundering investigation being run by the Cayman authorities, with the assistance of the NCA,” the rep detailed. "The bars and pieces of gold, which together weigh around 104 kilos, have now been seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act, following a hearing at Uxbridge Magistrates in London."

Delilah Belle Hamlin, 21, admits she went to rehab twice

The daughter of reality TV star Lisa Rinna, Delilah Belle Hamlin has broken her silence on social media about how she's overcome a very difficult year.

She revealed this through a series of extremely candid posts on her Instagram Stories on Friday that she went to rehab twice last year.

The 21-year-old said she needed to work on her mental health and she called rehab a life-changing experience and “the best thing that has ever happened to me.”

Hamlin added that she hopes, through talking about her experiences, she can help others who are struggling and too ashamed or discouraged to speak to others.

“I’ve been hesitant to share this information with you guys because there are a lot of you now and sometimes that scares me,” the model explained. “I strive to try my hardest to be a positive influence on my younger followers. I wanted to share this with you guys today because it could help at least one person struggling with anxiety and or depression.”

“This time last year I was in rehabilitation. I moved to New York to start my journey as a student at NYU. Not long after I moved to New York I began having terrible depression,” Hamlin continued. “I started attracting negative people into my life because my thoughts were so negative.”

She admitted she was in a very unhealthy relationship that "pushed me over the edge" and was spiralling so she called her mom and headed back home to Los Angeles in February.

"Two weeks later I was admitted into a rehab facility,” Hamlin said. “I knew the way I was living was unhealthy and detrimental to my mental health so I called my mom and told her I needed help.”

In rehab, she learned about "being independent, feeling less shameful and guilty," and practicing self-love. Hamlin returned to the facility in June for a two-month stint -- "I learned what self-respect meant."

“Saying no is OKAY! Do only things that make you happy and make you feel good about yourself. Don’t let another individual take over your life and tell you who you are or how to be,” she insisted. “Take control of your own life and get rid of all negative people and energy that may surround you. And I guarantee this will lead to a happier life even if it’s hard in the moment.”

The model told her followers that it's okay to "be vulnerable" and admit you need help because "it will change your life."

Damian, Elizabeth Hurley's son wins multi-million dollar inheritance battle( Full Report)

Elizabeth Hurley’s son Damian will inherit some of his dad’s multi-million family fortune – despite his grandad’s attempt to cut him out, reports claims.

Damian, 17, whose dad is millionaire Steve Bing, had been told he would not get any money from the trust because he was born out of wedlock.

Damian's grandfather, real estate heir Dr. Peter Bing, had tried to prevent the teen model and his half-sister, Kira Kerkorian, from accessing their inheritance.

But a Los Angeles judge ruled this week that Damian and Kira, the daughter of Steve and ex-tennis pro Lisa Bonder, were beneficiaries to Dr. Peter Bing's trust, DailyMail.com reported.

The grandad had tried to claim Damian should not inherit because the model had never met his own dad, according to court papers.

But dad Steve, 54, blasted this statement, with his legal team branding the petition a "sham".

Steve is estimated to be worth a whopping $475 million, the Daily Mail reports after he inherited his grandfather Leo's fortune.

He also accused his dad, Dr. Bing, of "orchestrating a massive money-grab" with his sister Mary, 53, so her kids would inherit more money.

Dr. Bing established his trust in 1980 to "benefit [his] future grandchildren," who were born or adopted at a young age by Steve or his daughter Mary.

But in March, a motion attempted to clarify the meaning of grandchild.

The documents state any of Dr. Bing's grandchildren must be "raised by my children as part of their families" to receive any financial benefits from him after he set up the GC trust in 1980.

The papers also stated his trust will not be passed on to "any person bought out of wedlock unless that person had lived for a substantial period of time as a regular member of the household."

But on Tuesday, Judge Daniel Juarez shot down claims the term 'grandchild' was ambiguous and needed to be clarified.

Juarez wrote in his judgment, citing case law: “There is no ambiguity in the Trusts' use of the term 'grandchild.'"

“The Trustee's interpretation of the Trusts is unreasonable because no ambiguity exists and the Trustee's construction of ‘grandchild’ is simply unfounded.”

Although the exact value of the trust is not known, all grandchildren beneficiaries are expected to inherit at least several millions.

The legal battle kicked off when Kira asked to find out more information about the trust, as she insisted she was a beneficiary.

Peter's affidavit reads: "I have never met Damian or Kira, and neither of them was raised by Stephen as part of his family.

"l know that neither of them has lived with Stephen while a minor as a regular member of his household.

“To the best of my knowledge, Stephen has never met Damian, and Stephen only met Kira after she became an adult.

“Regardless of whether, when and if Stephen met with or had any relationship with Damian or Kira while they are or were minor because neither was raised by him during their formative years l do not consider them my grandchildren."

It continues: “Even were Stephen to develop a relationship with Damian now, l would not consider him my grandchild because he is nearing adulthood.”

Elizabeth, 53, and Steve enjoyed a relationship in 2001.

Just one year later Damian was born, but at the time the 53-year-old businessman insisted the model's only child was not his. However, a paternity test proved he was the biological father of Liz's child.

It is unknown if Damian has been seeking information about the inheritance.

Simon Yam, 'Tomb Raider' actor stabbed in China

Popular actor and producer Simon Yam from Hong Kong was reportedly stabbed in the stomach on Saturday.

The 64-year-old was attending an event in southern China and police said his injuries were not life-threatening. The motive for the attack is still unclear.

Yam actor underwent a minor operation at a hospital in Zhongshan city, according to his manager Lester Mo.

"He was stabbed in the tummy area and also got a cut on his right hand," Mo revealed.

He was still being treated for injuries to the four fingers of his right hand. A suspect was detained following the attack in the Zhongshan Huoju Development Zone in Guangdong province, police said.

Yam, who is also known by his Chinese name Yam Tat-wah, has appeared in more than 125 movies and 40 television series.

The actor is marred to model Sophia Kao and they have one daughter together, Ella.

Family's holiday photo spoilt as woman stood close to then and Flashed her boobs

A family's holiday photo was ruined when a woman standing close to them lifted her top and exposed her BREAST.

Mum Monica Davila was left furious after discovering the smiling woman's crude photobomb while going through snaps from her trip.

The snap shows the Ms Davila's family, including young children as young as five, posing in front of a sign at a state park in Texas as the cheeky prankster lifts up her shirt and shows off her left breast.

The mystery blonde, wearing sunglasses, has a huge smile on her face - and Ms Davila says she decided to share the photo to embarrass the woman.


Ms Davila, from Cypress, Texas, told ABC 13: "(You see her) boob, nipple, everything.

"We're trying to recreate memories. Having some chick's boob isn't allowing us to do that. "(We) had no idea that was going on."

The family was on holiday at Garner State Park, west of San Antonio, when the photobomber struck.

Ms Davila shared the photo on Facebook in a bid to identify the flasher and shame her.

She also called the police to file a report because she wants the woman to be held "accountable".

33 Object like Razor blades, screwdriver and more removed from stomach of 30-year-old India man

Doctors remove 33 objects which includes razor blades, screw drivers and knives from the stomach of a man in India.

A 30 year old man identified as Yogesh Thakur in India, had razor blades, knives, screw drivers and more removed from his stomach by doctors.

Thakur was admitted to the hospital on July 14 after he complained of severe stomach pain. His mother, Kusma Thakur, told doctors her son would ‘grab anything and eat it’, leading them to conduct x-rays and doctors were stunned to find objects such as a knife, screwdriver, razor blades and plastic items inside Thakur’s stomach.

Two days later, doctors extracted all the objects in an operation and Thakur, a part-time farmer, is now recovering and will receive psychiatric help.

Doctors said it’s likely he suffers with acuphagia, a disorder in which people eat sharp or metal objects and other items they can’t digest. Acuphagia is a category of pica, an eating disorder whereby the person cannot help eating non-food items such as dirt, talcum powder or paint.

I checked the bathroom because I didn’t think anybody could be in the wardrobe.

When she was crying fire fire fire, I’m burning, I’m burning. I heard the sound, I opened the door, nothing! Then I finally decided to open the wardrobe, there was the woman, all her shirt burnt with fire. She came out, all her shirt torn, injury all over her skin. I asked her how come all these? She said press men gave me money to hide in the wardrobe, that when you start sleeping, I should come out of the wardrobe and lie with you, so they can say you committed adultery. She was taken to the hospital, 7days later, she died."

1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

Open Heaven 18 July 2019 Thursday MESSAGE:

In today’s memory verse, the Holy Spirit makes it clear that there are different categories of vessels, all of which God uses. In other words, there is no one who comes into the world without serving one divine purpose or the other. The question is, what material are you made of, and what category of vessels do you belong to? There are vessels made of gold, silver, wood and clay. However, more sobering is the classification of vessels into those for honour and those for dishonour. I pray that you will be a vessel unto honour in Jesus Name. Pharaoh was a vessel unto dishonour. In Romans 9:17, the Bible says concerning him:

“For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.”

A deep secret in the above scripture is that man is given the freewill to choose what type of vessel he wants to be. Pharaoh was given ample opportunity to write a beautiful history concerning himself as a king who feared God and save his people the agony of catastrophic destruction. What did he do with that opportunity? He bungled it and perished in the Red Sea. Unlike him, Abimelech who took Abraham’s wife listened to God, did exactly what God instructed him to do, and he was blessed (Genesis 20:2-18). His barren wife and maidservant became fruitful. The king of Nineveh also was a vessel unto honour. He led his city to repentance, and they obtained God’s mercy because they chose to obey His instructions.

Today’s Bible text gives a clue on how to become a vessel unto honour. In it the Holy Spirit emphatically says that whoever chooses to be a vessel unto honour, such as a minister of the gospel, must be blameless, among other requirements. The reason for this high standard is not far-fetched: honourable assignments are meant for honourable people. Sinners are not honourable in the sight of God. No wonder 2 Timothy 2:21 says:

“If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.”

This is the higher ground to which the Lord is calling us. We can be vessels of honour if we choose to be. All that is required of us is to do what the Holy Spirit specified in 2 Timothy 2:21. Cleanse yourself of the dishonourable works of the flesh, be sanctified by grace and let the Holy Spirit dwell in you. God bless you.

Sarah Hyland is now a bride-to-be. The “Modern Family” star, 28, announced on Instagram on Tuesday that she and her boyfriend, Wells Adams, are engaged.

“That can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, world series kind of stuff,” she captioned the sweet gallery post, referencing a quote from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s 1995 movie, “It Takes Two.”

A rep for Hyland confirmed the engagement news to Page Six, adding the milestone moment did not occur on the same day as their social media posts.

In the series of photos, Hyland showed off her engagement ring against a beautiful beach backdrop, while Adams, 35, posted a video of the proposal that also included a montage of photos of the couple throughout their relationship.

“I’ll be Johnny, you be June. But forever,” he wrote of the video, using a lyric from Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors.

“I love you to Pluto and back FIANCÉ!!!!” Hyland commented on the video.

Adams first caught Hyland’s attention when he competed on JoJo Fletcher’s season of “The Bachelorette” and then went to the show’s spin-off series “Bachelor in Paradise.” After he began dating Hyland in the fall of 2017, Adams returned to the hit reality series as the house bartender, doling out advice to singles in paradise.

Louis C.K. stole my jokes says Anthony Jeselnik

Louis C.K. has really gone beyond the line now as Anthony Jeselnik allegedly accused hm of stealing the setup to some of his jokes.

During a Q&A at the 92nd Street Y this week, one-liner specialist Jeselnik said that “years ago” Louis had watched his show at the Comedy Cellar from the wings, and when Jeselnik came offstage, C.K. said to him, “I love watching you because I try to guess your punchline, and I come up with my own that works, but it’s different from yours.”

Jeselnik said that Louis — who was due onstage next — then asked him if it would be OK if he tried some of his own punchlines to Jeselnik’s setups on the same crowd for fun. Jeselnik said he told Louis it would “be an honor” but he never expected C.K. — who is trying to make a comeback following the scandal over his sexual misconduct — to keep using his material.

Jeselnik added, “I see him six months later at the Aspen Comedy Festival — and he’s doing the f - - king jokes!”

Open Heaven 17 July 2019 Wednesday MESSAGE:

“A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” – Proverbs 18:16

This scripture makes clear the reason why we need to identify our gifts. However, it is one thing to identify your gift and another to put it to positive and profitable use. Paul knew this, and so he encouraged his spiritual son, Timothy to stir up the gift of God which had been imparted to him by putting it to profitable use (2 Timothy 1:6). Gifts are bestowed on people for specific reasons and purposes. For example, when the Lord gave Moses the architectural design of the tabernacle, He also gifted Bezaleel and Aholiab with artisan skills to carry out the works (Exodus 31:2-6, Exodus 36:1-2). The task was so complex that only those who were given the gift of “all manner of workmanship” could have carried it out with the precision it required. At the end of the exercise, the Bible says in Exodus 39:32 & 43:

“32 Thus was all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished: and the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they. 43 And Moses did look upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.”

Many people are gifted, but they fail to develop the gifts in them, so their gifts remain dormant and useless. Buried gifts are useless to the one who possesses them and also to the society at large, which ordinarily should benefit from them. People who fail to develop their gifts are like the proverbial unprofitable servant who refused to trade with (develop or multiply) the talent he was given by his lord (Matthew 25:14-30). The same principles apply to spiritual gifts. From today’s Bible reading we understand that even though there are various spiritual gifts, they are all given for the common purpose and goal declared in Ephesians 4:12-13, which says:

“12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”

Everyone has a gift which we must all develop in order to be relevant in our generation. If we successfully use our gifts and bring profit to God through them, we will receive physical and spiritual rewards. Brethren, I encourage you to identify your gift, develop it and use it to glorify God and bless humanity.

Eight dies as unarmed police take on the three London Bridge attackers during their deadly rampage

A  videotape shows moment unarmed police officers were faced with a trio of blood-soaked terrorist killers putting on suicide vests.

In the fear and confusion of the London Bridge terror attack, PC Bartek Tchorzewski, 36, ran towards Khuram Shazad Butt, Rachid Redouane and Youssef Zaghba as they rampaged through Borough Market.

He could see the bloodied knives taped into their hands and what looked like suicide vests strapped across their chests, but he ran to within two metres of the killers in an attempt to distract them and save innocent lives.

The Islamist fanatics had already mown down innocent pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed diners in the market before being cornered by police.


The footage was released at the conclusion of the inquest, at which the jury concluded that the London Bridge terrorists were lawfully shot dead by police after they 'ignored clear warning shouts'.

Actor Michael Sheen, after spliting from comedienne Aisling Bea is now dating an aspiring Swedish Actress

Since May this year, the actor, 50, has been romancing Swedish aspiring actress Anna Lundberg, 25, months after splitting from comedian Aisling Bea.

Anna, who refers herself as a 'Swedish/NYC actress currently living in the UK', shared a series of loved-up snaps with Michael as she accompanied him to the New York screening and London world premiere of his new show, Good Omens.

The couple's relationship has apparently gone from strength to strength since May, with Anna and Michael now on a 'glamping' holiday in West Wales. Anna shared a video of the actor using the fly spray as she laughed out loud.

The new couple also took a sunkissed trip to LA last month, with Anna snapping a photo of Michael by the Hollywood sign.

According to Anna's website, she completed a three-year theatre programme in Sweden, followed by summer courses at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and Guildford School of Acting.

She also stated that she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

Although she is yet to hit the big time, she has appeared in productions of Shakespeare's Othello and Wedekind's Spring Awakening.

FG reacts as Isha Sesay, ex-CNN broadcaster writes a book on Chibok girls

The Presidency has welcomed with reservations a new book titled “Beneath The Tamarind Tree”, written about the kidnapping of 270 Chibok schoolgirls, by Isha Sesay, the ex-CNN broadcaster and now a Child Rights activist.

A statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, however, noted that the book was hampered by misrepresentations.

According to him, the book should serve the purpose of spotlighting the crimes against humanity by Boko Haram terrorists, etching it permanently on the public mind.


He added that the book should rightfully stir up interest and rally international support for the young girls on the continent who must stay in school and avoid early pregnancy and marriage, in order to actualize their God-given potential.

Shehu noted that ”in her introduction of the book, Isha claims that she wants to “humanize” the girls, instead of them being seen as “mere headlines”.

”She acknowledged the release from Boko Haram captivity of more than 50 percent of the girls under the Buhari administration but says, very rightfully, that “we must not forget the 112 who are still missing”. On this, we share a common position.

”In stitching together her compelling portrait of this unfortunate yet paradoxical incident, Isha, this terrific journalist, risks a negative judgment of history on a book that is a farrago of misrepresentation.”

The presidential aide, however, observed that it was wrong of the author to say of the Buhari administration that “they don’t know who to negotiate with” because Boko Haram had split into factions.

According to him, this is a misrepresentation of the position of the government on split in the leadership of the terrorist group into two contending factions.

He said it was clear that the split had the effect of making negotiation and reaching an agreement a more difficult task.

”Otherwise this country and our international partners are still engaged through third parties with the terrorists.

”While it is true that the government has no information on where the captives are held, otherwise it would have seized the location and recovered the girls using all means at its disposal.”

Shehu also dismissed as incorrect that the Federal Government had given up on the Chibok girls, saying there was nothing on the ground to give that impression.

He revealed that already the Ministry of Women and Social Development has a fully staffed government unit dealing with the Chibok abductions and its fallout.

”This book asserts that the government and people of Nigeria no longer cared about the girls because “they are poor…they don’t have famous names; people just don’t care.”

”No. Nigerians care, and that is why the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement was able to generate “the groundswell of public opinion“ as acknowledged by the author.

”Yes, it is true that “the only reason“ the sitting government at that time ‘acknowledged fully what had happened’ was due to the public outcry but it is again unfair to lump criticism on the Nigerian Government without differentiating which of the two administrations that served Nigeria from 2014 to date.

”The Buhari administration came in 2015 with a promise to recover the stolen girls and a milestone has indeed been achieved by bringing back and caring for more than 50 percent of them, even though the job cannot be said to be complete.”

Shehu stated that government’s explanations had become imperative at this time in view of the doubts that may possibly arise following the release of the book.

He, therefore, reiterated the government’s determination to ”secure the release, by peace or by force, the remaining 110 Chibok girls, Ms Leah Sharibu and all other citizens held captive by terrorists.”

Senate calls for National Security Summit

The Senate today called for immediate convocation of a National Security Summit to address insecurity in the country.

This is following a point of order raised by Sen. Ayo Akinyelure (APC Ondo), over the killing of one her constituents, Mrs Funke Olakunrin.

Akinyelure expressed concern over the killing and similar ones, which he described as “increasing and incessant murder of innocent Nigerians by gunmen along major highways in the country.”

He also cautioned that if immediate actions were not taken, the development might lead to ethno-religious crises, especially in the Southern part of the country.


While urging the Senate to observe a minute silence in memory of the deceased and others who died in similar circumstances, he said attention of the Federal Government should be drawn to the situation.

Also, Sen. Tolu Odebiyi (APC-Ogun), called on the Senate as an institution to sit down with the presidency and the security formations in a meeting to take immediate action.

However, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Sen. Ajayi Boroface (APC-Ondo), urged his colleagues to be cautious about linking a particular tribe as perpetrators of the attacks.

“We should approach this matter maturely and encourage the federal government to improve on the state of security.

“We should not link a particular tribe with the killings, as being observed in the social media. Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Fulani people have all been killed,” he said.

The President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, on his submission equally lamented the situation, which he said was being felt across the country.

He, therefore, said stakeholders should immediately converge in a robust national security summit to discuss and address the situation.

“The security situation is all over the country. It is very unfortunate just like all our colleagues have said in their contributions.

“We should have one national security summit on this. The summit should be all-encompassing and all-inclusive, involving other arms of government and various security formations,” he said.

Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore calls for Obasanjo’s arrest

The apex Fulani socio-cultural organisation in Nigeria, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has criticised Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, for blaming herdsmen for the insecurity in the country, while calling for the arrest of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo had written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on the prevalence of insecurity in the country, calling for a national dialogue where the Fulani and other ethnic groups can be open about their grievances that have led to the insecurity in the country.

Similarly, Soyinka called for a national conference to address the killings in the country by suspected herdsmen.


But the National Secretary of the Miyetti Allah, Alhassan Saleh, in an interview with Punch said the Fulani should not be blamed for the rate of insecurity in the country.

According to Saleh, Obasanjo should offer any information his status may have afforded him to solve the security crisis.

He said, “The fact that there is insecurity, I don’t think the Fulani are responsible for it. The narrative that we are responsible for the insecurity is even the problem we have with the Nigerian state.

“When any crime happens, even before there is an investigation, people rush to the press and start accusing Fulani herdsmen. Herdsmen are supposed to be carrying herds of cows but if somebody is a criminal or an armed robber, he should be treated as such.

“But if Obasanjo, in particular, having ruled this country for so many years and with his network of security contacts, both locally and internationally, has information, I think he can volunteer it.”

Asked about a proposed national platform for dialogue, Saleh said,

“Which national dialogue? We have a National Assembly. Whatever they have, they should send it to the National Assembly. What is the function of the National Assembly? People lost power and don’t want to agree that in a democracy, you may be in power and another time, you won’t be in power.

“If we have confidence in those we elected, I think whatever issue they have, they can channel it to the National Assembly. They want another talk shop probably to come and reposition themselves and their cronies into another jamboree.

“Where is the Goodluck Jonathan conference report? Where are the other conferences’ reports? They are just pushing an agenda; in fact, they are desperate and very diabolical in their attempt to cause a crisis in this country. My worry is that the government is not decisive in dealing with characters of that nature.”

Saleh advised the Federal Government to take decisive action against all “elements” and their sponsors causing instability in the country, adding that Obasanjo may want to “destabilise the government.”

“The earlier they get him (Obasanjo) arrested and dealt with, according to the laws of the land, the better. He doesn’t mean well for the country. We just elected a new government; we have a National Assembly that was just inaugurated. Nobody needs any conference, except they are pushing for something else.

“The unfortunate thing is that intellectuals like Wole Soyinka are also joining the bandwagon of these discredited politicians. But our worry is that they seem to associate every crime that happens now to the Fulani, simply because the President is a Fulani man.

“We are just waiting and watching carefully because we are not demanding too much from the Nigerian state. All we are saying is give us space to graze our animals. That is not difficult,” he said.

I did not take my education seriously and I regret that, Yvonne Nelson speaks in new interview

Yvonne Nelson said she was already into entertainment and that made her education automatically her second option. In a recent interview, she said she regrets not taking her education seriously.

Speaking during an interview with Joy FM, the actress said;

“I would go on stage every Saturday in SHS. I had to rewrite some papers. I was so into entertainment that I didn’t take my schooling serious. You can easily mess up and not make it to university. I regret not paying attention to my books so when I see kids of today, I tell them to pay attention to their books”.

She also spoke about how she managed to graduate from university because her career was fully activated then.

“I was in Central University. And it wasn’t easy mixing sets with classes. I had to make up my mind. It was tough. Nigerian producers were giving me juicy offers and I was torn between accepting the offers or not. But, I had to focus on school and I was so happy to have graduated, I didn’t want to defer,” she said.
