Woman, 34, dies at the spiritual purification ceremony in Cyprus after taking psychedelic drugs
A Russian female, 50 years old, has been arrested by the police and are in touch with Interpol to locate a Colombian male accused of supplying the drug for the celebration on Tuesday.
The purification involved 20 people in the coastal town of Larnaca who took ayahuasca and the ritual was reportedly led by the Russian woman.
Cyprus police said today that the illegal drug dimethyltryptamine (DMT), also recognized as ayahuasca, has just been found for the first time.
In the native language, the drug becomes the spirit soul and the dead body called.
The Latvian woman was unconscious when she was taken to the General Hospital of Larnaca and was declared dead on arrival on Tuesday, according to Phile News.
The Colombian man, 42, is supposed to have delivered the medicine and left Cyprus shortly after the ceremony.
