Okwui Enwezor Dies at 55

Okwui Enwezor, who is a renowned art curator, poet, and educator, has given up the ghost after a fight with cancer.

The cause of his death has resulted with his struggle with cancer. He was 55 years old.

After Enwezor had stepped down as director of the Haus der Kunst in June, citing he's health reasons, he had an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel, two months later where he revealed that he had been battling cancer for three years and had undergone several treatments tothat..

Before his death, Enwezor was the only African-born curator to organise two prestigious exhibitions– the 2015 Venice Biennale and Documenta 11 in 2002.

He was also the artistic director at The Haus Der Kunst from 2011 to 2018.

In a tribute on Twitter, the Venice Biennale praised the late Enwezor for his “courageous contributions” to art.
